Arunachal Film Festival- A rare laudable effort

ITANAGAR, Mar 24: The ongoing Arunachal Film festival being held at Siddhartha Hall, Itanagar is one of the rarest initiatives taken by any government department which should be lauded in true sense. Organized by department of information and public relation, the festival is a big initiative to give fillip to the film industry which is still fighting for survival.

The festival which started on 22nd March will conclude tomorrow. Today documentary films based on the life of eminent personalities like Dr Tamo Mibang, RGU Vice-chancellor, Padma Shree Mamang Dai and Everester Tapi Mra was screened. Another documentary film titled “When the Mist is Lifted” by well-known film maker Moji Riba was screened too.  Tele film Oyaa, feature film Sonam and a Nyishi feature film Dr Abo was screened too. The audience present truly enjoyed Dr Abo, which is based on the problems of inter-tribe marriage and need to save tribal culture and tradition. There is a need to promote more such movies which uses tribal dialect as a medium. It is the only option left to protect tribal dialect from the onslaught of Hindi and English language.

One of the audiences present told this reporter, “Though I belong to Siang belt, I truly enjoyed this Nyishi movie. For the betterment, the tribal film producer should give sub-title in English so that everyone can understand in much better way. By the way IPR department and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki deserve appreciation for starting this festival. But don’t end here and make it an annual affair. Then only we can say it is a success.”

The Arunachal Film Festival had remembered contribution of various film makers of state and this legacy need to be carry forward. This is only platform where film makers belonging to various tribes and region exchanges their ideas and views. The organizer can add spice to the even next time by inviting prominent film maker from mainland India, so that Arunachalee film maker can learn more from them.

 

 

Dr T Ao Memorial Football

Team Arunachal in race for final

ITANAGAR, Mar 24: Team Arunachal will have their task cut out for them as they get ready to face defending champions Mizoram in the first semi-final of the 4th Dr T Ao Memorial Football Tournament being played at the JN Stadium in Shillong, Meghalaya.

After having made a bad start to the tournament losing to Meghalaya 3-0 in their opening match, the Arunachal team found its footing from the second match onwards defeating Assam by a score of 2-0 thanks to a brilliant performance by Toko Polium. The inspired performance helped the team gain momentum for the next match as they took on the Nagaland team on March 22 last.

The game was filled with flashes of individual brilliance and collective strength with Nyamar Loyi showing the way for the Arunachal team putting the ball past the Nagaland goalkeeper in the 17th minute. The Arunachal team were determined to finish things off before the half-time whistle as they pushed forward looking for another goal which finally came in the 34th minute with a Tadar Kojum effort. The victory ensured that the team made it through to the league stages of the tournament for the first time.

In the semi-finals to be played on Monday, Arunachal Pradesh would take on Mizoram, while hosts Meghalaya would take on Manipur.

 

 

Opium trade goes unrestricted in Siang Valley

PASIGHAT, Mar 24: Opium trade, banned by the government, is going on unchecked in eastern Arunachal districts including East Siang, where illegal cultivation of poppy plants and selling of its product is causing concern to the authorities.

In Siang belt, opium is reportedly produced in large scale at Sumsing, Damro,  Adi-Pasi and Mariyang areas in Upper Siang district which are later circulated to other parts of the district and East Siang. Villagers are engaged in rampant farming of opium in these areas; from kitchen gardens to far-off fields.  

The outcome of massive poppy cultivation is increasing the figure of opium addicts in different parts of Upper Siang. The detrimental practice has also gripped Katan, Mariyang, Mopon, Ponging, Jeru, Sibum, Padu and Sili villages. The practice is gradually spreading to Pasighat town, Mebo area and to the rural areas in Sille-Oyan, Ruksin and Bilat circles. A large section of young people have reportedly fallen under the fatal drug and are spoiling the most formative years of their lives.

The increasing trend of opium abuse in Adi societies is now causing concern among the conscious citizens including the heads of Adi Bane Kebang  (ABK), AdiSU and other administrative officials, who have called for concerted efforts to whip out the social menace.

The ABK functionaries and its Women Wing members observe that detrimental practice of opium intake has become a growing social menace and it is an impending danger to the community. The former Yingkiong ADC Rajesh Panyang exhorted the youths and student communities to work for eradication of opium practices.

Notably, eminent citizens of Upper Sing and East Siang have lamented that their movement against opium abuse is facing a big challenge as their attempts have been foiled in the face of protest from a strong section of the bureaucrats. It is said that use of opium among the Adis was restricted to medicinal purposes. However with changing of time, the use of the drugs gradually diminished only to raise its ugly head.

According to report, rampant use of opium is also found in many parts of Lower Dibang Valley district. According to some local leaders, the people smoke opium in public gatherings or functions, raising nobody’s eyebrows. Opium is clandestinely sold in various pockets of Roing town like Cheta, Mayu, Intaya and Asali, becoming a routine addiction in the areas.

It may be recalled that Delhi based Institute for Narcotics Studies and Analysis (INSA) conducted a survey in 2011 and revealed an alarming situation on drug abuse in Upper Siang besides Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit, Anjaw, Changlang, Tirap. The recent boom in opium trade in the eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh can be traced to early 1990s when the United Nation Drug Control Programme offered assistance to Myanmar to eradicate illicit opium production.

According to a rough estimate, the annual yield of opium is around 100 tonnes, an average of 10 kg a hectare. The average addict in the state takes about three gms of opium a day, which is much more than what an addict consumes anywhere in the country.

Now, the onus is on the policy makers and organizations among the Adis to ensure that opium cultivation is restricted.

Instead, propagation of horticulture and other marketable cash crops in place of opium is need of hour.

The director of Narcotics Control, RN Srivastava had suggested the state government to place a comprehensive proposal before the central government. The suggestions includes creation of alternative source of household income, establishment of de-addiction centres.

 

 

Nyami Me:te SHG renders yeoman service

RUKSIN, Mar 24: Nyami Mete Self Help Group, a leading group of the Ngorlung village under Ruksin circle deserves public attention for its yeoman service in the area.

The SHG, through its regular premium deposit and inter-lending financial service has made its fund position sound. It is extending financial assistance (free) to the poor meritorious students and helping the rural poor and destitute, who are incapable to afford medical treatment cost.

Formed in 2007, the SHG has completed five years of its service. It has observed 5th ‘Foundation Day’ today at its office premise at Ngorlung village with great fanfare.

Registered under Society Registration act under the state government, the SHG has applied for financial sanction for implementing various social welfare activities.Now it has started a 'Mushroom Cultivation' project in a private-made farm house in the village.

Informing their action plan in the current year, president of the SHG Kuku Panyang said her group is planning set up a commercial “Rubber Nursery” at Ngorlung village. It also plans to set up a fruit processing unit in 'Industrial Growth Centre' at Niglok and to launch of massive “awareness programme” on women empowerment issues.

Attending the SHG’s foundation day, Ruksin block ZPM praised the yeoman services rendered by the women group  and encouraged them to continue their efforts of social service besides enhancing their economic activities.

It may be mentioned that there were as many as 31 SHGs in Ruksin sub-division, out of which most are defunct, while the rest have no activity nor have sound fund position.

 

 

Health Mela at Khonsa

KHONSA, Mar 24: Tirap Zilla Parishad chairperson L. Loham today inaugurated a two days health Mela at district hospital Khonsa amidst huge gathering. The health Mela is being organized by District Health Society Tirap in association with Damanis Nursing Home Dibrugarh.

In his Chairman speech Loham hailed the resource persons who have come from Pasighat and Dibrugarh in the form of living Gods to provide their valuable expert services to the poor people of Tirap who have never been attended by any Specialist. He assured the guest faculty his full cooperation to make the Mela successful.

Earlier Dr. K. Perme, DMO Khonsa in his welcome speech said that the purpose of Health Mela is to provide Promotive, Preventive and Curative Health care services who have limited access to these services at doorstep and also to disseminate the information on population control measures as per National Population Control Policy 2000.

Dr. N. Borang, DRCHO Khonsa, expressed his gratitude to Parliamentary secretary DOTCL & SW Yumsem Matey, Parliamentary Secretary Sports Wangki Lowang and local MLA Kamthok Lowang, for their generous contribution for the Mela. He also highlighted the services to be provided during the Mela and also proposed the vote of thanks to the gathering.

The guest faculty consists of Dr. Dilip Dutta Gynecologist from CHC Ruksin, Dr. A. K. Sharma ENT Specialist, Dr. S. M. Baruah Medical Specialist, Dr. G. B. Das, Surgical Specialist, Dr. M. Taye Gynecologist and Dr. P. N. Das, Orthopedic Surgeon all from Damani’s Nursing Home Dibrugarh.

IEC on Breast feeding and World TB Day was also observed simultaneously. Out of total 450 mothers registered for tubectomy 236 has been already operated since yesterday, according to an official release.

 

 

Upper Subansiri DC visits Chetam circle

DAPORIJO, Mar 24: Upper Subansiri district Deputy Commissioner Tahang Taggu made a history by visiting all the circle headquarters covering almost all the remote villages on foot during February and March.

Finally on March 21 last, he had visited Chetam circle and inspected all the Govt establishments, especially under health and education departments.

The villagers apprised the DC about the pathetic condition of medical centre and education system in the villages and urged the district administration to take necessary steps for better health service. Child mortality rate is increasing day by day due to shortage of medical staff and medical facilities, the villagers said adding that the worst sufferers are pregnant women.

In his speech, one of the most senior citizens of the circle informed that there are many Govt. staff posted against this circle in different department, especially for schools and medical but they are reluctant to perform their duties at posting places, and staying at Daporijo without performing their Govt duty. Despite  adequate Govt infrastructure/buildings,the staff members are not staying at the circle.   Many schools have no children. Teachers are staying at Daporijo and also getting salary without attending the school duty for a single day, he said and appealed the Govt to look into the matter.

The villagers further informed that there is no regular circle officer in this Circle since the present Circle Officer of Chetam is already holding the charges as EAC, CO and BDO in-charge of Giba circle. Due to non-availability of regular CO, the villagers are facing numerous administrative problems, they said. Even there is no community hall for villagers, they added.

While responding to the public grievances, the DC informed the villagers that the circle officer, who is looking after the administrative works of both Giba and Chetam circles, will stay at Chetam Circle for fourteen days and at Giba Circle for another fourteen days and  rest of the days  he will stay at Daporijo for official works.

He also appealed to the villagers to take up the agriculture and horticulture in large scale, stop deforestation, unnecessary earth cutting. The DC further urged the villagers  to stop hunting wild animals.

The DC further appealed to the  parents to  encourage their children to  be educated and also appealed the Gaon Burah  to keep away from petty politics and  work for the well-being of the  village.

 

 

Forum alleges foul play

ITANAGAR, Mar 24: The All Mengio Educated Unemployed Forum (AMEUF) in a release claimed that executive engineer Sagalee PWD division is carrying out construction of road from Sakiang to Panior Bridge (5.00 Km) of an amount Rs. 515.84 lakh under CRF Scheme in utter violations of various working norms of Government contract work.

In this regard, it is to inform that said Executive Engineer instead of plotting competitive NIT, had issued the said work to various private individuals in the form of work order which is serious violations of Notification issued by Central Vigilance Commission of India which directs that there shall be compulsory plotting of NIT for every Government Contract Work, the forum stated in a release. The most interesting thing here to be noted is that the said executive engineer had issued work orders to those only private individual to whom he shares good rapport and to those having strong political influences in the area, the AMUEF added. Further forum stated that the quality of work has been compromised and deviated from the Detail Project Report. Citing various discrepancies in the implementation of project, the forum stated  that illegal act of the said executive engineer is the gross violations of Section 16 of Central Public Works Department Work Manual, 2007 and also the violations of Rule 129(vi) and Rule 132 (iv) of General Financial Rules, 2005. The All Mengio Educated Unemployed Forum (AMEUF) has appealed to Chief Secretary and Commissioner Public Works Department to give directions to the Commissioner Finance not to give approval for the sanctioning of fund earmarked for this current financial year.

 

 

Misguiding information presented: ACS

ITANAGAR, Mar 24: Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has said that the NERIST authority is misleading the whole society by giving ‘misguiding’ information to ACS.

While analyzing the response received from NERIST, ACS chairman Patey Tayum today said the media that the registrar did not elaborate on the issue of violation of Recruitment rules in his reply.  

Alleging violation of recruitment rules, the ACS said that the registrar  did not fulfill any of the recruitment criteria for the post. “His experience as Dy Registrar is just 2 and half years and he is 53 years old. He belongs to general category and as such there cannot be age or other relaxation as per rule.”  Despite notice served by the National Commission for Schedule Caste for immediate rectification  no action was taken by NERIST director in this regard, the ACS said.

Further the denial of any pending vigilance case against Dr. R. P Bhattacharjee is gross lie. His past service record and integrity is questionable, the ACS said.

On demand  for immediate cancellation of “those appointees”, the statement presented by the Registrar is contrary to the statement presented to MHRD, GoI, the ACS chairman said.  “The denial of vacancy is false, since there are still 59 posts vacant under reserved category for ST.”

The ACS further claimed that the recruitment to various Group A & B posts are not according to Roster. “The Registrar is trying to sabotage the issue and quoting partial fact to mislead,” it said.

“The recruitment to various posts  is not as per roster.  It is evident from advertisement no.1/2011 and advertisement no.2/2012 of NERIST that no definite roster is followed.  Detailed study of these 2 advertisements will suggest that the intention of NERSIT authority has been anti-tribal,” the ACS said. It alleged that local candidates who applied for various posts and found eligible to attend the interview were intentionally denied of the opportunity.

 

 

Entrepreneurship awareness programme in IGGC

TEZU,  Mar  24: Sponsored by M/s Matai Communications & Printings, a reputed business house of Tezu, the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) of Indira Gandhi Government College (IGGC)  organized a day-long Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP) for 50 participants from BA & B Com third year yesterday. College Principal Dr B.K. Nath advised the students to be job givers and not job seekers by becoming entrepreneurs.

The Programme Coordinator Dr. K Rajendra Babu, Associate Professor, HoD Commerce  and Coordinator of the EDC highlighted through his powerpoint presentation the concept, need and importance of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship for the rapid socio-economic transformation of the state.  

While exploring various entrepreneurial opportunities available in the state he exhorted that business leaders and business leadership is as much important and vital as political leadership for the greater development of any state.

Participating in the awareness programme as the guest resource person, Ashok Kumar, Associate Professor in Geography of Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar presented the students with his inputs on “Project Identification & Project Management”, while  Rajan Miwu, Assistant Professor of Commerce  of IGGC dwelt upon “Institutional Assistance & Support to Entrepreneurs”. Towards the end of the programme all the participants were awarded with certificates of participation.

Pretty Elapra and Sumaya Mega acted as student coordinators of the programme. The organizers extended their gratitude to the Director of Higher & Technical Education, Dr. Joram Begi for his constant support and guidance in organizing such programmes for the students in addition to  usual class-room teaching.

 

 

SDP for unemployed youths

ITANAGAR, Mar 24: Eighty-four days Skill Development Program (SDP) on Tailoring and Broom making kicked off at Palin on 20th March last. The program was organized by Community Learning and Doing Center (CLDC), Palin and sponsored by NABARD, regional office, Itanagar. The main objective of the program was to educate and develop the skills of the unemployed youth people of the circle for livelihood promotion.

The inaugural function was attended by Rido Tarak, Circle Officer, Palin, Tassar Rakap, ASM (Tassar) and OP Maunglang, District Development Manager (DDM), NABARD, Ziro as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Special guest respectively.

Addressing the inaugural function, O P Maunglang, District Development Manager (DDM), NABARD, Ziro advised CLDC, the implementing agency for effective coordination with state govt. depts. and SBI, Palin for the participants to reap maximum benefit from the training program.

Byabang Rocket, Chairman, CLDC, Palin while thanking NABARD for sponsoring the SDPs, he assured the PIMC to follow NABARD’s term and condition scrupulously and urged NABARD to guide the trainees by providing loan after the program. T. Makik and Tassar Nira, local pancyatat members also expressed their gratitude to NABARD as well as CLDC for conducting the program in Palin and assured all possible help at local level.

As many as 25 each participants were selected through interviewed by Project Implementing Monitoring Committee (PIMC) chaired by DDM, NABARD.

Govt quarter gutted

ITANAGAR,  Mar 24: The Govt quarter of PHED secretary Tomi Ete was gutted in a fire  mishap at Upper Vivek Vihar Colony yesterday evening. However, the  local residents came out  and along with  Fire brigade team doused the  fire.   This was stated by Vivek Vihar Colony Welfare Society.

Two persons, namely, Vikash Richo, S/o J. Richo serving as a JT Teacher at Govt. Hr. Sec. Arunadaya, Itanagar cum Secretary of the Upper Vivek Vihar Colony Welfare Society and Manoj Kumar,  resident of colony received injuring while dousing the  fire. The  colony dewellers lauded Richo for his act of bravery. They also appealed to the authorities to provide immediate relief to the fire victims and to ascertain the cause of fire so that such fire mishap could be prevented easily in near future.

 

Alleged rapist arrested

ITANAGAR, Mar 24: The Ziro police today arrested the person who had allegedly raped a minor school girl at Joram recently. This was informed by Lower Subansiri District Superintendent of Police in a statement.

Earlier, on March 21, Ziro Police Station had received a written complaint from one Neelam Harin of Village Neelam stating that on 26th February at about 12 hours his minor daughter age about 10 years and a student of Class I who is boarding in Bomi English School hostel Joram was raped by the owner of the school. This was disclosed by the victim girl to her mother on 9th March 2013 during parents meet, the statement said.

On receipt of the complaint a case (Ziro PS Case No. 15/13 U/S 342/376(f)/201 IPC) was registered and victim girl was forwarded to the District Hospital Ziro where medical examination was done by the Board of Doctors and the report is awaited.

A police team consists of Insp Tab Techi OC PS Ziro, SI D. Singpho and SI I. Lollen left no stone unturned and intensified the investigation and the alleged accused was arrested today.

Further,  Ziro police administration has appealed to all the people especially the parents and relatives and  well- wishers of the victim to maintain peace and tranquility and to cooperate with the police for smooth investigation.

 

Sit-in dharna by AAPSU and NESO

ITANAGAR, Mar 24: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) under the aegis of North East Students Organization is going to organize a sit-in dharna outside Rajbhawan on 25th of March to protest against the government of India’s apathy towards north region. All the student organizations of NE region will simultaneously hold dharna outside their respective Rajbhawan.

ITANAGAR, Mar 24:  The Rono Youth Association (RYA) is going to organize football tournament at Rono ground from 10th April next.  The winner will get cash prize of Rs 30,000 and runner up will have Rs 20,000 along with trophies.

 

Union claims irregularities in Mid-Day Meal scheme

ITANAGAR, Mar 24:  Claiming that the concerned authority of West Siang district has misused the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) scheme fund by increasing the total enrollment of students, Adi Students Union; Itanagar today urged the authority to immediately cancel the allotted fund for MDM for the year 2012-13.  The union also alleged that the authority is treating MDM as their source of income.

 

Peace rally at Deomali

ITANAGAR, Mar 24: The All Tirap District Students Union (ATDSU) organized a peace  rally at Deomali township  yesterday  with a clear message for peace and tranquility in Tirap district.

While condemning the  gunfire exchange that took place at Soha village  in Tirap District  on March 16, the Union appealed to the State Govt. for  proper security to the govt. employees and general public.  It said the unwanted gun fire incident has totally shattered the development activities  in the district while causing irreparable loss to pubic properties.

Besides the pubic of Deomali and Khonsa township the peace rally was participated by the students of Wangcha Rajkumar Govt. College, Deomali Higher Secondary school,  and large number of villagers who shouted slogans --“We want peace,” “We condemn gun firing” and “No peace, no development.”

No place for educated youths

Dear Editor,

This is in reference to the article written in your esteemed daily by noted journalist Taba Ajum on 21st March under the headline “All is not well outside the Assembly.” Whatever he has written is really true. I have been facing tough situation of being jobless since I finished my MA degree way back in 2010. I have lot of experience of visiting various difference departments in the hope of getting some job or favour.

I am deeply pained to see the prevailing unpleasant system in our state. Obviously, this must be a new system in the world politics which is known as “brand Arunachal politics”. Under this system, politicians prefer to give priority to the person with criminal background. Citizen who use force and do not even mind to risk others life for their selfish interest are given importance. It is true that when educated youth wearing best formal dress visits govt, office and approach the officers in the best possible polite manner to get some favour in the form of small contract work or try to get benefit from different government schemes to manage their livelihood, they have to return empty handed. Officers tell these youths about govt, technical problems and complex­ity in awarding contract works on scheme. They blackmail these youths as they are educated and supposedly have to behave properly and therefore can be dealt easily.

Finally, officers say sorry and youths have to return empty handed. What adds more frustration to such educated youths is that some officers are ready to award work from same schemes to the people who visit Director’s and Minister’s office wearing short or track pant who at any times is ready to slap them, hold their collar and use foul language against them. In this case, all technical complexity attached to schemes seem to vanish. So, the moral of prevailing system in Arunachal is that educated and decent men have no place. It seems there is no difference between educated and criminal in Arunachal Pradesh. I think these kind of new problems are created by our political leaders and officers as they are giving more importance to the criminals.

Last but not the least, I would like to request high level govt officers and political leaders not to encourage this trend, otherwise time will come 'when all highly qualified edu­cated unemployed youth will start doing the same. Then your large residence wall will be become very small to hide and more criminal will grow up in our state.

Not a fair affair

Dear Editor,

Thorough esteemed column of your daily let me explain how Degree & Diploma holders of computer engineering have been deprived of competition in the competitive exam held on 24th March for the

post of J.E (Junior Engineer) by the Department of Hydropower. As per advertisement both diploma/degree holder from Electronic & Communication as well as Computer Science & Engineering were eligible

for the said post & different set of syllabus for concern technical subjects were issued to us at the time of form submission. So, we expected different set of question papers for Electronic & Computer

respectively. But what shocked us is that on the day of “Technical subject paper” they provided us with a common paper in which 99 percent of questions were from electronic syllabus. On complaining for not

including questions from Computer Engineering they gave funny explanation saying that the questions are equally distributed from both the stream i,e.  Computer Engineering & Electronic engineering

whereas fact is that questions was not equally distributed.

Later they realized that there is disparity in questions of Computer & therefore official concern asked students from Computer to wait for sometime as they will come up with some solution in this regards. After sometimes they come up with really funny solution i,e. they gave us three questions from Computer Engineering each carrying 10 marks each & asked us to write. Now, my question is how fair it is? As the technical paper carried 100 marks in total & cut off mark itself for the said paper is 33 percent of total i,e. 33 marks and mark allotted for the new questions from Computer Engineering i.e. 30 marks which is not even reaching the prescribed cut off marks .I wonder how they are going to evaluate paper for Computer Engineering student? Will they give special consideration to the Computer students by assuming 30 marks as 100 percentile by evaluating three questions only and allocate marks out of three questions only or will they evaluate as a whole by including remaining questions comprising 70 marks from Electronic Syllabus also?

In earlier case it would be unfair to applicants from Electronic Engg. & in the later case it would be highly unfair to applicants from Computer Engg.  We never expected that Engineering Department such as

Hydropower to commit these sorts of blunder, as official from said department are suppose to know basic at least that Computer Engg. & Electronic Engg are entirely different discipline.

Lastly, I would like to request to the concern authority that by considering above scenario please provide us(applicant from Computer Engg.) with equal opportunity to compete by re-conducting exams for a technical  subject according to Computer engineering syllabus for applicants from Computer Engg.

We are moving towards better days

Dear Editor,

Through the column of your esteemed daily I would like to share a simple 'thing' that each of us ought to feel, even if for a few moments. Since recently I got into the habit of skipping first page and directly jump to the reader's forum column whenever I read a newspaper. The reason being the pure joy and curiosity of knowing what’s irritating citizen.  Don’t get me wrong think it like this- a few years from now this section hardly had anything except for some occasional complains, demands but was  non-existent for the young generation and most of the common masses. Back to today, what do we see? A letter to the CM, well those are still there but look who’s next- someone demanding equality in job interviews, other one stressing the need to preserve nature, another one cheering for Unity in Diversity, PRC, DSE issue....the list goes on covering almost whole pages in recent publications. From learned intellectuals to our village folks, elderly to teens like me, everybody's expressing themselves their anger, sorrow, anxiety and their concerns. It’s becoming so engrossingly lively and interesting here that I would happily trade hours of facebooking/twitter for a few quick glances of the readers column any day! I seriously have no intention of making light of these natters but do we realize what all this means? Now when there is inequality voices are raised against it, when some mishap happens it almost immediately gets put up in Readers Forum column resulting in discussions, debates and leading to individuals, various groups/unions to step forward to support the cause, isn't this what we call 'traits of a good citizen' the freedom of expression,  the Fundamental Rights? Wasn't this what they envisioned A True Democracy? Doesn't every part of it scream out that its coming, the change, development, progress? We Arunachalees are still striving for the development and coming up of new shopping malls, colleges, ATM centre etc are the examples.

I truly believe that even in the midst of the everyday cares and worries of this fast-paced and ever-changing world of ours, it’s a wonderful thing to simply sit back once in a while, may as well toss in some popcorns and lemonades, to watch a playback of everything we have done so far, taking a refreshing detour of our achievements, remembering to congratulate ourselves that no matter how small it might have been but the fact is, it’s still a step forward from where we started and Believe it or not, it Definitely counts!

If I were to describe the picture that comes to my mind every time I ponder over our state's current condition, I see a land surrounded on all sides by high rocky mountains but due to the numerous streams that criss-cross it, it’s turned into something like a huge garden overflowing with all kinds of plants- trees, shrubs, flowers, all kinds and colors, some in full-bloom while others have yet to. But with the break of dawn one by one more of them are starting to blossom in unison, as the sun slowly rises higher and higher, its rays penetrating through from behind the mountains, lightening up this once hidden paradise and painting the whole landscape in a beautiful crimson....mesmerizing ain't it? The credit goes solely to this blessed land-worth every little effort to preserve it and to each of her children- its people who in their own unique ways and their many different colors contribute to the beauty of this Land of the rising Sun.!!!

Keep Tezu town clean

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily would like to share few things regarding cleanliness of Tezu town. Tezu, the Headquarter of Lohit Dist. is one of the popular towns of state and its importance is being felt from time immemorial since the days when historically famous “Parasuram Kund" became a pilgrimage in Arunachal Pradesh. Thousands of devotees from across the country keep on visiting the sites for a holy dip in its water on the day of Makar sankranti i.e. on 14th January every year. Therefore Tezu being the district headquarters attract thousands of devotees from far and nearby areas. Further Tezu being one of the important tourists’ circuits also attracts large numbers of domestic and foreign tourists for visiting the historically and archaeologically important sites situated in and around the district. Simultaneously a big fair known popularly known as “Parsuram mela” is organized at Tezu in which traders from all over India joins which lasts for a month beginning from January to February every year during Makar Sankranti.

Due to inflow of large number of tourists every year Tezu has become a place of attraction from where all communication to the different tourist’s destination are made possible. Presently number of hotels and restaurants are also coming up for comfortable stay for tourists.

Now, the main question is how to keep town clean and tidy. Cleanliness and proper hygiene are universally regarded as indispensable existential norms that must inform and permeates all our actions. However, a consciousness in terms of education, demonstration and training is required to be created to ensure that these norms become part of every conscious citizen of the township.

Very recently under the theme CAMPAIGN CLEAN INDIA, the directorate of Tourism, Itanagar jointly along with district tourism office Tezu launched a drive to instill civic sense to fight against the use of plastic and polythene. Karikho Kri local MLA appealed to all the citizen of Tezu Township to keep the town clean and litter free. The department of urban development and housing Tezu the nodal agency for sanitation maintains regular cleanliness drive in townships. The Deputy Director, UD &H is also very much concerned and has been constantly in touch for town cleanliness and monitoring activities with the help of his official team members. At the same time awareness among the local residents is equally vital for sustaining the cleanliness in the Tezu Township. Since it is our town, hence it should be ardent duty of every one of us to keep it clean and tidy.

Dream came true in the form of Siang district

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to express few words regarding Siang District creation. On behalf of the people of Rumgong-kaying and Boleng-Pangin constituency, I would like to give express gratitude to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki for creating ‘Siang district’. Earlier, many CM had come, heard our grievances and gave mere assurance for creation of new district but nothing materialized but this time CM Nabam Tuki with a vision and understanding the people’s problem in this area had made dreams come true.

Industry Minister Tapang Taloh and MLA Tamiyo Taga also deserves pat for their efforts in creating new districts. We believe that under the able leadership of present CM, Arunachal will go a long way on the path of development and hope that he will continue to give equal priority to every part of Arunachal.

Island of stability

Even as economic uncertainties loom over the world, Asia and Pacific will remain an island of stability, according to the United Nations Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2012. However, the region will continue to be buffeted by headwinds ranging from stormy commodity prices and receding demand for its exports.

Though reduced demand from the debt-afflicted West would slow growth, the Asia-Pacific will remain the world’s fastest growing region.

Among the key policy challenges and options facing Asia-Pacific countries are balancing growth and inflation, deploying measures beyond monetary policy to fight inflation; coping with capital flows and exchange rate volatility and curbing unemployment by stoking domestic consumption to act as an engine of growth.

These nations must work towards improving working conditions, achieving income parity, and making growth inclusive.

The good news is that, according to experts, most countries are favorably poised to initiate a range of actions to stimulate and rebalance growth.
